SUPERVISOR SARMIENTO SELECTED TO SERVE AS CHAIR OF THE CALOPTIMA HEALTH BOARD OF DIRECTORS

CalOptima Health is Orange County’s single largest health insurer, serving low-income children, adults, seniors, and people with disabilities.

Santa Ana, Calif. (December 4, 2025) – Orange County Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento was unanimously selected to serve as Chair of the CalOptima Health Board of Directors at today’s meeting.

The Supervisor previously served as Vice Chair of the Board, and his selection as Chair comes at a pivotal time for our CalOptima and Medi-Cal members.

“I am honored to serve as Chair and grateful for the trust that my fellow directors have placed in me,” said Supervisor Sarmiento. “As significant federal and state changes take shape, I remain committed to continuing to work with my colleagues and staff to protect access to care, enhancing quality, strengthening member privacy, and ensuring the system is prepared to meet our members’ evolving needs.”

Supervisor Sarmiento also acknowledged and welcomed the newly elected Vice Chair, Maura Byron, Executive Director of the Family Support Network. “I look forward to working closely with Vice Chair Byron and the entire Board as we continue advancing homelessness and housing initiatives, supporting community-based programs, and supporting the healthcare needs of our most vulnerable residents,” he added.

“No matter the funding issues we face or the changing political landscape, we will remain focused on what is most important: prioritizing the well-being of the nearly one million Orange County residents who rely on CalOptima Health,” concluded Sarmiento.

Supervisor Vicente Sarmiento was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in November 2022. He represents the Second District, which includes the city of Santa Ana and portions of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Orange, and Tustin. For additional information, visit https://bos2.oc.gov/supervisor.
